wildlife, animal and bird art

Biophilia - an emotional attachment to the living world

My name is Sallyann. I am the artist behind biophilicart.com. I create beautiful, contemporary art that reflects my love of the natural world around us, particularly animals, bird and wildlife art. I truly believe that everything is connected and my artwork is one of the ways in which I personally like to connect with nature.
I am just an ordinary girl with no art qualifications, who woke up one morning, not so very long ago and decided to draw something with the coloured pencils that I had lying around the house unused. I believe that absolutely anyone can draw and create beautiful pictures if they really want to. So, I began to draw the things that I love the most, wildlife, birds and animals. I know I am supposed to tell you here about my artistic concepts and the symbolism of my artwork, but there are none! I simply love the animals and birds that I draw. If a picture touches my heart, if I can see the soul of an animal in its eyes and its own unique character, then all I try to do is to capture that on paper. It is as simple as that. No deep and hidden meanings. Just a love of life in all its forms.
I work solely in coloured pencil - the slowest of all art mediums, but they give a wonderful, translucent depth and richness to the finished piece. There is true joy and satisfaction in watching a piece of art slowly come to life as I add layer upon layer of color. I cannot tell you how much I love colored pencil and I hope that my enthusiasm is infectious! You can learn more about how I draw and color my artwork in the tips and techniques pages. You can follow my step by step guides and tutorials to see exactly what my processes are. You can also follow my latest projects on my blog.
I hope that you will enjoy browsing through my work, and for a few moments find yourself a little more connected with the world around us.
