Mother of Pearl Butterfly
Mother of Pearl Butterfly drawn using Schpirerfarben pencils. There is a video of how l drew the wings on this which you can see if you click the link below
Ruby Topaz Hummingbird
This hummingbird has such unusual colors l couldn’t help but draw it. As always the chance to work with a different color palette always draws me in!
Jacamar. This pretty little bird is related somewhere along the line to the Bee eaters and has nothing to do with hummingbirds even though they look so similar. I put all the colors l used in this drawing in the shot you see here. You can see a step by step guide to drawing feathers on my tutorials page.
Black Throated Mango Hummingbird
This beautiful reference photo was used with the kind permission of the talented https://www.facebook.com/StephenJayPhotography/.
I have had the beautiful reference photo for this bird for a rather long time and have finally got around to drawing it. I was working hard to achieve iridescence with this piece.
Labrador Puppy eating Strawberries
Labrador puppy eating strawberries. Having never drawn a Labrador, or a puppy or strawberries or even a pale dog on a white background this was an interesting challenge for me. And l live a challenge! Actually l loved every minute of drawing this fun piece. As always l used Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran D'Ache Luminance and Supracolor pencils. I used a lot of the Luminance on this piece for all the beautiful blonde colors in the range.
Lilac Crowned Amazon Parrot
This Lilac crowned Amazon Parrot was the first time l experimented with Copic markers as a base coat of color. This was in an attempt to acheive more vibrancy without building up the layers so much that l couldn’t add more color.
Blue And Yellow Betta Fish
Another of my Betta Fish drawings. On this one l loved the way the fins swirled around the fish.
Mandarin Dragnet Fish
Mandarin Dragonet Fish. How could l not draw a fish so psychedelic? Knowing how l love colour this fish was not to be resisted!
The Black Cat
More cat art! The eyes again! They always draw me in!This very intense looking cat was a departure for me and was worked in colored pencil on black mat board. It measures 8"x8".
