l love drawing frogs but don’t seem to draw them nearly as often as l would like to. This is a Dumpy Frog and l had a lot of fun creating all the different textures for this piece. You can see how l created the texture on the belly in the video below.
Common Kingfisher 2. My second Kingfisher which l was so excited to draw as l have been wanting to draw one with a fish in its mouth. I love birds in action and the beautiful reference photo for this was so dynamic!
Betta Fish Fantasy
Fantasy Betta Fish. There is a story behind this one! I drew it a while ago but the colors were so boring that l hated it. I finally took it from my cupboard of no return and decided to play with color. I had fun picking out any color l felt like using and the end result, whilst not ever so realistic, is at least not boring!
Mocca the Macaw
Mocca the Macaw. I have had a craving (yes really) to draw a red Macaw. I have no idea why l suddenly want to draw with a certain color, l don’t think l have ever drawn a predominately red animal and l was really excited at the thought of it. So here is the stunningly beautiful Mocca. Drawn using Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran D’ache Luminance and Pablo’s and Holbeins on Stonehenge paper.
Fiery Betta Fish
Fiery Betta. This was a piece where l experimented with Derwent Inktense pencils as a base layer for the colours on top.
