Is there such a thing as too cute?.....l think not!

Happy, happy weekend to everybody. The week has flown past and it has been full of drawing and art. I asked my daughter if she thought the dormouse picture was too cute ....hence the post title, as her answer was, "How can anything be too cute?". Well, l think that she is right! So perhaps l should stop apologising for it and just say that this was really fun to draw. I really enjoyed drawing flowers for a change and getting lots of colors out and even the mindless zen like state of working the background.
Anyone who has been following me on Instagram will know that l keep going on about Caran D'Ache Supracolor pencils, l used them a lot in this piece and l used (unusually for me) just one colour for the background which was a beautiful pale blue from the Supracolor range. I was really interested to see how this pencil worked all alone.
They are actually watercolour pencils and it was for that reason that l first bought them. To be honest when l first used them l was a bit disappointed as l didn't find that the pigment really came out strong enough, or maybe l didn't experiment for long enough. My hope had been to use them to speed up covering large areas of background, that didn't work out. My guess is that the pigment could be laid down strongly enough to use with water, but that there would be no time saving benefit to me.
The thing l was really excited about though was the beautiful color range. There are some very unusual colors, the bluish pale l used in this background for instance and orangish brown and some beautiful pale beiges and blue greys. I found that they blend really well with my Polychromos and the oms l usually use, but this is the first time l have used onlySupracolor for a large area.

lt is hard to see because of the lighting on the first shot, which makes it look blue anyway, but in the shot below l have worked the background and l was really impressed with how smoothly the color covered, those annoying white dots vanished very quickly when l blended with the oms. They are quite soft so l used nearly two thirds of a pencil to do this, but the coverage was beautiful and l think they will now be my pencil of choice for covering a large area smoothly.

Anyway l have to say l am really happy with this background even though it is just one plain color. And if my little mouse is too cute, well l like cute and mice! And my love for what l am doing has recovered after the whole owl thing! Which is really what l wanted more than anything. You can buy prints in my shop and lots of exciting new goodies now including gorgeous weekender bags and makeup bags. If you want to read more about the other pencils that l use check out my tips and techniques page. In the meantime do have a wonderful rest of the weekend and a fantastic week.
