Hello world and welcome to Thursday. We are hoping for rain. The collecting barrels are emptied ready to catch every last precious drop and we have three more storage barrels that we would love to fill for the summer. Rain is forecast, but it was 80f yesterday and I relented and got my shorts out! At least I made it to March this year. Wearing shorts in February just seems plain wrong to a UK girl who never felt the need for shorts even in July! So, rain, yes please!
You can see I have made some progress, work has begun on the beak and some of the feathers at the side of the body are started. They are still looking very messy. It never fails to catch me out - those initial scribbly looking layers. I know. I DO know that it will look better. But EVERY time I begin, my heart sinks and I think I have just ruined my work. It is something that I just have to force myself to work through. It will suddenly come together and look right. The lesson I have learned is to keep going.
And the background too is still having layers added. All the sections are at varying numbers of layers. This is more about keeping the paper clean. I don't really want to work the bottom right hand corner until last, because I don't want my hand going over it. That is generally what dictates the order that I work a picture in. As I go back to darken the already worked background I use a piece of Glassene under my hand to stop me from lifting or smudging the colour. Finding a clean way to work has been a trial to me. My first pieces I really struggled with. I think I will address that topic on the website under tips and techniques.
To all of you who are following me I want to say a big thank you, and do say hello and feel free to share your journey too. Have the best of Thursday's, and whatever it is that you are working on, don't get discouraged , just keep going and it will turn into a thing of beauty.
